Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate, skilled, and dedicated Special Education Teacher to support students with diverse learning needs at the junior high level. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to inclusive practices, collaborate effectively with general education staff, and provide specially designed instruction aligned with students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide instruction and support for students with IEPs in a variety of settings (e.g., resource room, inclusion, or self-contained)
- Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs in compliance with federal, state, and district regulations
- Adapt and modify curriculum materials to meet students' academic, behavioral, and social/emotional needs
- Collaborate with general education teachers, paraeducators, specialists, families, and support staff to ensure student success
- Collect and maintain accurate data to monitor student progress and inform instruction
- Participate in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and school-based team meetings
- Manage classroom behavior and implement positive behavior support strategies
- Supervise and guide paraeducators working with special education students
- Utilize assistive technology and other tools to support access to curriculum
- Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment
- Perform related duties, as assigned by the Special Education Director or the Principal
Qualifications:
Required:
- Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with a Special Education endorsement
- Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and Washington State Special Education regulations
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of educators and families
Preferred:
- Experience teaching at the junior high/middle school level
- Familiarity with IEP writing software (e.g., IEP Online)
- Experience with co-teaching or inclusive practices
Must pass a valid Washington State background check, updated 1st Aid/CPR Certification
