Position Summary

The Grand Coulee Dam School District is seeking a dedicated, student-centered High School Guidance Counselor to join the Lake Roosevelt Jr./Sr. High School team. The ideal candidate leads with compassion, champions equity, and is committed to supporting all students in achieving academic, social-emotional, and post-secondary success. This role requires strong collaboration with staff, families, and community partners to ensure students feel supported, valued, and empowered.

The High School Guidance Counselor provides comprehensive academic advising, social-emotional support, and college/career readiness services for students in grades 7-12. This position plays a critical role in fostering student well-being, strengthening the school climate, and ensuring equitable access to resources and opportunities.

Provide individual and small-group academic counseling for students and families.
Guide students in course selection, registration, four-year planning, and graduation pathway requirements.
Monitor academic progress, credit acquisition, and on-track-to-graduation status.
Participate in MTSS and Student Support Team meetings; identify students needing interventions and collaborate on supports.
Support students enrolled in College in the Classroom, dual credit, and advanced coursework.
Assist students and families with the Running Start application, onboarding, and ongoing progress monitoring.
Assist with master scheduling, academic placement, and student transitions.

Guide students in exploring a full range of post-secondary options, including college, apprenticeships, military service, technical programs, and direct-to-work pathways.
Support students through the college and career process, including applications, scholarships, FAFSA/WASFA completion, and the use of career-planning platforms.
Assist with organizing and implementing college and career events, guest speakers, advisory lessons, and campus visits.
Serve as a liaison with colleges and universities to support dual-credit opportunities, Running Start, and College in the Classroom partnerships.
Coordinate and facilitate administration of ASVAB, PSAT, SAT/ACT, and other relevant assessments.

Provide short-term, solution-focused counseling and crisis intervention for students experiencing emotional or personal challenges.
Facilitate small groups (SEL, conflict resolution, coping skills, etc.).
Collaborate with school and community mental health professionals to provide wraparound support.
Serve as a mandated reporter and uphold ASCA ethical standards.

Communicate regularly with families regarding student needs, progress, and available resources.
Build partnerships with community agencies to support mental health, mentorship, and post-secondary pathways.
Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with district, state, and federal regulations.
Participate in school-wide initiatives, professional development, and committees.
Support a positive school environment aligned with district Core Values: Growth, Respect, Accountability, Communication, and Leadership.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal.

Valid Washington State ESA Certificate in School Counseling (or eligibility to obtain).
Master’s degree in School Counseling or related field.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build supportive relationships with students, staff, and families.
Knowledge of academic advising, SEL frameworks, MTSS processes, and college/career readiness systems.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow ethical guidelines.

Experience in secondary education (grades 7–12).
Experience working with diverse student populations.
Knowledge of Running Start processes, dual credit programs, and College in the Classroom coordination.
Familiarity with Skyward, graduation pathways, MTSS systems, and career readiness platforms.
