Position: Student Transportation and Instructional Paraprofessional
Reports To: Building Administrator and/or Designee
Classification: Classified – Paraprofessional
Schedule: School Days, based on student instructional and transportation needs

Hours: 6:30 am - 12:30 pm

PLEASE NOTE: This position will start at 2 days per week, then build up to 4 days per week and is currently for the 2026-2027 school year only.

Position Summary

The Student Transportation and Instructional Paraprofessional provides individualized transportation, supervision, and instructional support for an assigned student. The paraprofessional will transport the student from the Grand Coulee Dam School District to Ephrata each school day, remain with and support the student throughout the instructional day, and transport the student back at the conclusion of the school day.

The employee works collaboratively with instructional staff to support the student's educational, behavioral, social, and safety needs while promoting student independence and access to instruction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Transport the assigned student to and from Ephrata each school day using a district-provided vehicle.
• Safely operate the district vehicle and comply with traffic laws, district procedures, and transportation requirements.
• Remain with the student during the instructional day and provide supervision and paraprofessional support as directed.
• Assist the student in accessing and participating in classroom instruction, activities, assignments, and educational programming.
• Reinforce instruction and provide individual assistance under the direction of certificated instructional staff.
• Support implementation of the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP), behavior plan, health plan, safety plan, or other individualized supports, as applicable.
• Assist with transitions between classrooms, activities, transportation, meals, and other components of the student's school day.
• Encourage appropriate student independence while providing the level of assistance and supervision required for student success and safety.
• Support appropriate student behavior using district-approved strategies and procedures.
• Collaborate and communicate professionally with the student's teachers, service providers, administrators, and other appropriate staff.
• Maintain student confidentiality in accordance with FERPA, district policy, and applicable state and federal requirements.
• Ensure the student is safely transferred to and from designated staff, locations, or responsible adults.
• Immediately report accidents, safety concerns, student concerns, vehicle concerns, or unusual incidents to the appropriate district administrator.
• Complete required transportation, instructional, behavioral, incident, or other documentation as directed.
• Maintain reliable and punctual attendance due to the individualized nature of the assignment.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Meet Washington State requirements for employment as a paraprofessional.
• Valid Washington State driver's license.
• Acceptable driving record and ability to meet district and insurance requirements for operating a district vehicle.
• Successful completion of required background checks and fingerprinting.
• Current First Aid/CPR certification, or ability to obtain certification within the timeframe established by the district.
• Ability to work effectively with students requiring individualized educational and behavioral supports.
• Ability to follow directions and implement instructional and student support strategies established by certificated staff.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment while working independently.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience working as a school paraprofessional.
• Experience implementing instructional, behavioral, or social-emotional supports.

Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to safely operate a motor vehicle for extended periods, enter and exit the vehicle regularly, accompany and supervise the student throughout the instructional day, and provide physical assistance consistent with the student's needs and assigned duties. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

Working Conditions

This position requires daily travel between the Grand Coulee Dam School District and Ephrata and requires the employee to remain at the student's educational placement during the instructional day. Driving may occur during inclement weather and changing road conditions.

Terms of Employment

Work schedule, hours, compensation, and number of workdays will be established by the district based on the student's instructional and transportation schedule and applicable collective bargaining agreement provisions.

This position is specifically assigned to support an individual student's transportation and educational needs. The assignment, location, schedule, and duties may be modified based on student needs, educational programming, placement, or district needs.
